Thoughts on John 20:19-23

For those who are of the Catholic theological background, this narrative is taken as the disciples being prepared for the coming of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is referred to in the Hebrew Scriptures and is often called the Shekinah. Therefore, the idea of the creation of the Holy Spirit that first Easter evening is not supported. However, one must know the Orthodox denominations hold onto this belief. Whether the Trinity always existed or was formed that night is left to faith. It makes a difference in the faith’s expression.
